    • 1Inside Out Art From the DIA

      If you've seen what appears to be great art in an unusual place -- at the mall, say, or in a park -- you've stumbled across the Detroit Institute of Art's Inside|Out art exhibit. The project brings hgh quality reproductions of some of the DIA's most popular pieces to communities that might not otherwise see them because of their distance from the museum. Over the next two years, 44 communities will have special displays, as well as educational activities and other events -- and if you're a resident of the lucky city, you'll get free admission to the DIA on a designated Family Sunday.       What is a movie without popcorn? Not as much fun, is what. But if you've ever walked away from the concession stand dumbfounded that you just spent more on popcorn and a drink than you did on the movie ticket, you'll like this: MJR Cinemas has free popcorn on Tuesdays every week through Sept. 6. All you have to buy is a movie ticket and you can enjoy any size of popcorn free, with one refill. >> MJR Theaters in Brighton, Chesterfield, at Partridge Creek Mall, Southgate, Sterling Heights, and Waterford.     • 3Straight Ahead at the Zoo

      All-female jazz vocal group Straight Ahead have been featured in local TV ads, at lots of local festivals, and even on national TV shows. Even if you think you don't like jazz, you'll probably like them if you appreciate good singing and high-energy, tight performances.     • 4Happy Birthday to Warren

      Warren is hosting a birthday bash starting Thursday and going through the weekend. The city's municipal complex will play host to a carnival, kid's activities, food, an art show, live bands, a laser light show, and more. The fun starts at noon on Thursday and goes through Sunday.       There's not a kid out there who doesn't go absolutely crazy at the sight of a fire truck. The excitement will be at fever pitch in Ypsilanti when the Michigan Firehouse Museum hosts its annual Fire Truck Muster from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27. Owners of historic fire trucks bring their rigs to Riverside Park in Ypsilanti to show off their unusual vehicles. Trucks from 1920 through the 1970s will be on display.     • 7Village Faire in Canton

      Step into the past at Canton's Village Faire. There will be historical demonstrations and a chance to tour the township's historic Bartlett-Travis house, as well as music, face painting, and more. The event goes from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.Sunday at Preservation Park, which also hosts the weekly farmer's market from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There's also a corn roast sponsored by the Lions Club, with all-you-can-eat wristbands available at the event. >>500 N.Ridge Road, Canton.
